Danny Glover

LOS ANGELES — Actor Danny Glover (The Color Purple, Lethal Weapon) will be the Pan African Film Festival’s (PAFF) 2022 celebrity ambassador. The 30th annual festival will be held in-person and online February 8-21, 2022, in Los Angeles. Glover is a co-founder of the PAFF along with the late actress Ja’Net Dubois (“Good Times”) and Pan African affairs expert Ayuko Babu. In January, he is scheduled to receive the 2022 Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his contributions to filmmaking and the world.

“The role of the PAFF Celebrity Ambassador is to broaden public awareness of the festival as well as its mission,” said PAFF co-founder and executive director Ayuko Babu. “Since 1992, Danny has made the Pan African Film Festival and supporting Black filmmakers a priority, and so it naturally made sense for him to be the festival’s celebrity ambassador as we celebrate 30 years of Black storytelling through film and art.”

The PAFF is a twelve-day event that exists to evolve the emerging Black storyteller. Each year the PAFF showcases the broad spectrum of creative works and films by visionaries who highlight the diverse stories of Black America, Africa, and the global Black Diaspora.

“I am thrilled to be the celebrity ambassador for the 30th annual Pan African Film Festival, which has had a profound impact on Black filmmaking and Black filmmakers since 1992,” said Danny Glover. “The Pan African Film Festival is a cultural icon that has grown over the past 30 years into the largest Black film festival in the U.S., and I’m proud of any role I played in making that happen.”

The 30th annual PAFF will feature 150 new high-quality Black films from the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the South Pacific, Canada, and increasingly, Asia. In addition, the PAFF will present over 100 fine artists and unique craftspeople from over 40 countries and six continents in a showcase of Pan African cultures.

An Oscar-qualifying festival for animation and live-action films, the 30th Annual PAFF will take place in-person in Los Angeles and online worldwide February 8-22, 2022.

Smit-McPhee stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, and Kirsten Dunst in the film.

Another inaugural award- the Golden Key for Breakthrough Florida director, recognizing a Florida bred director whose films will be seen widely in the future – will be given to Clint Bentley. Determined to sell off the complex without a second thought, Lucas meets the eclectic tenants, and soon discovers his father was a different man than the one he knew.

Key West Film Festival Announces the Diana King Memorial Fund in Partnership with the King Family Foundation

Keywest Logo

Key West, FL — August 25, 2021 — The Key West Film Festival and The Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation are pleased to announce the creation of the Diana King Memorial Fund, in memory of the Foundation’s founder and longtime President and Chair, an outstanding philanthropist recognized for her commitment to educational opportunities in film, television and other media, who passed away in 2019. The five-year grant from the Foundation, beginning with the 10th Anniversary of the Key West Film Festival November 17-21, 2021, will support Key West Film Festival’s annual celebration of film and filmmakers, as well as student film awards and educational initiatives.

“We are beyond grateful for this generous grant from the King Family Foundation,” says Key West Film Festival Chairman, Brooke Christian. “Creativity is alive and thriving through the challenges of the past year – we have seen it in this year’s surplus of film submissions. The Diana King Memorial Fund will help us ensure we can celebrate film, education and student filmmakers for years to come.”

Diana King grew up in the world of television, a daughter of the late Charles King (who founded King World Productions in 1964) and his wife Lucille King. King World became the leading distributor of television syndicated programming in the United States, including such iconic series as The Little Rascals, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Inside Edition and Dr. Phil. Diana began working in the accounting department of the family business in 1972, and at the time of King World's acquisition by the CBS Corporation in 2000 served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Director.

Diana established the Foundation in 1988 to support individuals and organizations committed to educational excellence and professional development, in particular in film, television and other media. During her 30-year tenure as Board Chair and President, the Foundation awarded hundreds of scholarships to students with a focus in film, television and related media/communications studies at colleges and universities around the country, in many instances to individuals who would have been financially unable to continue their studies without this assistance. In addition, the Foundation has acted as a longtime sponsor of programs at several leading cultural and educational institutions around the country.

To Kill The Beast 3
To Kill The Beast 2

Emilia (Tamara Roca), 17, arrives in a religious town on the border between Argentina and Brazil. She is looking for her long-lost brother, with whom she has obscure, unfinished business.

She stays in the jungle at her weird aunt Inés's (Ana Brun) hostel where, according to rumors, a dangerous beast appeared a week ago. This beast, people claim, is the spirit of an evil man that takes the shape of different animals.

Between the real and the mythological, the human and the animal, guilt and sexuality, Emilia will seek to confront her past.

AGUSTINA SAN MARTÍN was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1991. She studied filmmaking at the University of Buenos Aires, where she later worked as a screenwriting professor. She is also a screenwriter and colorist.

Agustina also worked as the DoP on films like THE FUTURE PERFECT (2016), directed by Nele Wohlatz (Best First Feature at Locarno), and short films like HÉCTOR directed by Chilean filmmaker Victoria Giesen, which premiered in the Official Competition of the 69º Berlinale.

Agustina directed her first short film, THE CRY OF THE OXEN (2015), which premiered at the Festival de Cartagena and was an official selection of the Mar del Plata Film Festival. It won best short at FICIC, Festival de Cine del Desierto in Mexico and won INCAA TV. It was nominated for the Premios Cóndor.

It had a broad festival tour and was part of the official selection at VLAFF, Zinebi, Panoramic Stockholm Latino American Film Festival and Queer Lisboa.

In 2019, Agustina premiered her third short film, MONSTER GOD at the Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Official Competition and won the Jury Prize. Later, the film won the Golden Camera 300 prize at the Manaki Brothers Festival and was shown in other festivals including: AFI Fest, La Habana, Curta Cinema Río and El Gouna and many more.
