Do not Be Controlled by the Appearance of Things
Director and writer Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller BUNKER takes you on the emotional roller coaster of Miguel Moreno[ (Javier Bardem), a architect and his wife, Sofia (Penélope Cruz), a literary editor, as they navigate their lives after relocating from Madrid, Spain along with daughters, Lucia (Chloe Conh) and Rosa (Leah Conh). Miguel is offered an opportunity to build a bunker for a wealthy tech bro and the challenge he faces from his wife. The invasion of their privacy by new neighbor, Toby (Stephen Graham), brings all of Sofia and Miguel’s fears and worry to the surface. Susan Laurie (Sarah Hadland), Andrew (Paul Dano), Jeremy (Patrick Schwarzenegger).
BUNKER shares a message about passing judgement on people without knowing anything about them. Going by how a person looks, dresses and talks. Especially, the new Tobey neighbor, Toby (Stephen Graham.)
BUNKER is a good film.
What stands out to me is the challenge Miguel and Sofia face about wealth, class, and their position in life. A notable example is the set design. Their home their home. It looks as though a traditional London home was cut in-half and a new modern home was built right in the middle. It reflected dual roles in society. influence the perception of their wealth. (
Director and writer Florian Zeller provides a credible portrayal of the complexity of married life, how people can change overtime, all the while moving up in life.
Cinematographer Ben Smith captures the intrigue and suspense of the film. Editor Yorgos Lamprinos provide a smooth transition from scene to scene with an exception. The lighting and ambience in the film provides a wonderful backdrop to the film’s suspense.
Miguel “I would rather open a window, then dig a hole.
BUNKER is full of opportunities to pass judgment on the film’s characters. Based on how people look and live and BUNKER will challenge those assumptions. A great film you will certainly want to see.
